Crunchbase Named One of Inc.’s Best Places to Work in 2022

I am proud to announce that Crunchbase is one of Inc.’s Best Workplaces for 2022! This recognition is a testament to the collaborative, open, and inclusive culture our team has built. Being selected as a great place to work from thousands of other companies is a huge honor, particularly because the recognition comes as a result of honest feedback our employees shared via an independent third-party survey.

The award recognizes companies that have strong management, perks, employee growth, organizational benefits, and overall company culture. We scored a whopping 94 out of 100 on the survey, and I wanted to share some of the highlights.

Flexible hybrid work

COVID forced most of the world to rethink what it means to “go to work,” and Crunchbase was no exception. We transitioned from a San Francisco office-based workforce to a remote-first distributed team shortly after the pandemic started. We’ve been refining our culture ever since. Our goal is to accommodate our employees’ working styles, regardless of whether they choose to work in an office, their living room, a cafe, or anywhere in between. We trust our teammates and believe there is no rule that says work can only happen between 9 to 5. We even encourage ‘No Meeting Thursdays’ so employees have at least one day a week to get into a flow state and out of Zoom. You can read more about the ways we’re fostering remote employee engagement in this Fast Company article written by our CMO, Shanee Ben-Zur.

Competitive pay

Our finance and people teams are constantly monitoring compensation trends to ensure we’re meeting or exceeding market rates. For example we gave employees a seven percent raise across the board at the start of the year in recognition of both standout company performance in 2021 and record inflation. This raise was subsequently followed by our normal bi-annual review cycle, in which employees who were promoted received additional compensation increases on top of the seven percent.

Our salaries are complemented by reimbursement perks including:

  • Monthly $100 wellness benefit that can be spent on everything from meditation apps to running shoes
  • Monthly $100 internet stipend
  • $1K reimbursement for new employees to help make their home office more comfortable
  • Annual education stipend of $3,000 with $1,000 usable toward pre-existing student loans

Generous time off

Crunchbase employees get unlimited PTO and are encouraged to take time off whenever they need it. In addition to unlimited PTO, we also give Crunchbase employees at least one company-wide 3-day weekend each and every month with what we call “Mental Health Mondays.” And for those employees with growing families, we offer 14 weeks of parental leave.

Inclusive culture

We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and belonging inside and out of Crunchbase. While most companies just talk about DEI, we’ve made actionable commitments and regularly evaluate our progress to hold ourselves accountable for efforts across recruiting, philanthropy, brand, product, partnerships, and internal culture. Some impactful external outcomes from our commitments include the launch of our Diversity Spotlight feature that highlights companies led by and founded by underrepresented people. We also publish research on diversity-based investment trends, creating a platform that elevates and spotlights the voices of underrepresented people. Internally, we launched dedicated employee resource groups, new recruiting programs, employee training, heritage month celebrations, speaker series, and safe space discussions. We even created a rotational Culture and Belonging Task Force that organizes activities and supports our employee resource groups in their efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
